John Deere Road grit
Homes within a few blocks of John Deere Road and the 16th Street hill pick up a fine brake-dust film that turns milky in low sun. It wipes off wet and comes right back dry unless the glass is actually rinsed.
River humidity
North and east elevations near the riverfront stay damp until mid-morning most of the summer. Damp glass holds dust instead of shedding it, so those sides always dirty first.
Hard water on the sprinkler side
Moline tap water is hard enough that a sprinkler head clipping a ground-floor pane for two seasons will leave mineral you cannot wash off — only polish off.
What Moline homes actually need
Most of the calls I take in Moline fall into two piles. Why I do not put a ladder on your gutters
I own a water-fed pole system because I got tired of the trade-off. A ladder gets you to the glass, but it also puts a hundred and eighty pounds of leverage on your fascia, dents your gutter lip, and leaves boot prints in the bed under your bay window in April when the ground is soft.
The pole reaches the second story from the driveway. Water goes through carbon and resin filtration until there is nothing dissolved in it, a soft brush agitates the glass and the frame, and the pure water rinses it and dries clear because there is nothing left in the water to dry into a spot. No squeegee on the upper story, no ladder on your house.
The rest of the exterior, while I am here
Half my Moline jobs turn into more than glass, usually because the homeowner points at the north wall and asks what the green is. That is algae, and it is normal on a shaded elevation in a river valley. It comes off with a low-pressure soft wash and detergent, not with a pressure washer — pressure drives water behind vinyl and strips paint off older wood siding.
Gutters are the other one. The silver maples in the older neighborhoods drop enough seed in May and leaf in October to pack a gutter twice a year. If water is running over the front edge instead of out the downspout, that is what happened.

- Yes, and a good share of my Moline work is exactly that. Storm windows, wood sashes and original glass are all normal here. I plan extra time for storm removal and I will tell you before I start if a pane has a failed seal, because that haze is between the glass and no cleaning will touch it.
- How far south in Moline do you go?
- The whole city, including everything south of John Deere Road, the South Park area, and out toward Coal Valley. There is no travel charge anywhere in Moline.
- Can you get the second story without a ladder?
